How to dress when you've had a change in weight PS: It's not just about the number on the scale

Hey everyone! Maybe you've met me at the store or you've seen me live on social media or maybe this is the first time you're hearing from me! I'm a passion activist, beauty junkie and most recently, entrepreneur.

Taking ownership of VGB has been a dream of mine (and Carole's, too) for many years. We had explored boutiques several times, so when this opportunity finally presented itself, the rest was history! I'm so honored to have this chance, following in the footsteps of the talented Lauren. She was ahead of her time in creating Vintage Grace.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE creating a safe space for women to find that perfect outfit or sometimes, even themselves. This brings me to a subject I have been witnessing the effects of for the past year.

With the popularity of weight loss drugs, such as Ozempic and Wegovy, comes the most obvious change: your body shifting it's shape.

Do you know what doesn't change? The perception that these women have about themselves. They still see things they're unhappy with. They are experiencing changes that they weren't mentally/emotionally prepared for.

When you are used to one thing and within a matter of months, you've lost weight, the body doesn't just shrink and things stay the same! You might lose around your waist or hips but also your bust line. This all changes how weight is distrubuted, which then changes how different styles look on you.

Examples for you to visualize:

  • A v-neck elongates & is flattering for a larger bust
  • Ruching (where fabric is gathered and sewn) is our friend! On a more shapely body it will visually redistribute those pesky bulges. On a very thin or willowy shape, it adds texture.
  • Flare jeans lengthen and slim the look of the legs, almost adding a couple of inches to your overall profile!
  • A racerback bra lifts the breasts and helps you maintain better posture. That in turn can help to remind you not to slouch. Not only is it great for your core but improved posture helps you feel your best. Even your clothes will fit better!
  • A square neckline can balance a pear shape, minimize a very large bust and help narrow shoulders look wider.
  • Wear a more fitted top with a pair of wide leg pants for bottom heavy shapes.

Now let me share with you: you're all beautiful JUST AS YOU ARE!

🩶Step 1:  Take a breath and when you let it out, let go of negative self talk.

🩶Step 2:  Take stock of your basic pieces that still work. And those that don't.

🩶Step 3:  Feel free to bring what works to the boutique and let's start building a
                 some new looks for you!
🩶Step 4:  A good seamstress is our friend! She can help truly fit clothes to your
unique shape. We will be partnering with our fave seamstress, Jane, for                     an event focused on this subject! Stay on the lookout for that!

Whether you've shed some unwanted pounds or you just want to learn what works for you, I am here for the journey with you!

💋 Becca
